Living Room: Gone Griege with Revere Pewter; New Rug Find

As promised in a recent post, I’m sharing room tours of of my home’s newly painted interior now that it’s put back together. Of course, this also gives me the shopportunity to pick of some new things to complete the refresh! The first step in this update is having the perfect neutral to go with my living room focal point and main floor open-concept space.

Focal Point and Open-Concept Space
Jill’s Garden III by Robin Reynolds transforms nature into bold, colorful, impressionistic art.

The focal point of my cozy living room is a painting by friend and artist Robin Reynolds called Jill’s Garden III. An admirer of her work for many years, I indulged myself to celebrate a special occasion by purchasing one of her vibrant floral abstract pieces. A decision I have not once regretted.

So, with selecting a warm neutral color for our open-concept main floor, I had to first consider what color would work with the painting followed by my kitchen’s granite countertops and existing furnishings.

I accomplished this with the classic Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. It’s a neutral griege (gray/beige blend) leaning more on the warm gray side with green and earthy undertones, which is exactly what I wanted. Plus, its LRV (light reflectance value) is 55.51, falling into the light-medium range. For my taste, this suited the main living space without being too light or bold. Learn more about LRV.

As you’ll see, I like mixing color and textures and interweave family-inherited and more contemporary furniture pieces. Please excuse my brand new area rug showing its wrinkles and bumps as it’ll take some time to flatten!

Welcome to My Living Room

Picking out the paint for my entire home’s interior color refresh was a total-consuming process as I explained in my post: See Behind the Scenes of Color Reboot at My House. The same consideration came into play with replacing the living room area rug and accent pillows. Not sure about you, but it’s so easy to get obsessive with finding the just-right décor choice. I bought four rugs before I made my final selection, which was totally opposite of what I originally had in mind.

By coincidence, I found a “view in room” visualizer tool available from most online rug sellers’ sites using my iPhone or iPad. This allowed me to virtually move a rug image around the room to see how it complemented my furnishings. Genius! I only wish I knew it existed when I began my rug hunt. Check out some of choices I had in my Amazon cart while making my final selection. Of course, these images don’t include two in-store purchases I returned, but at least my rug search obsession is over. For now!

Left: I thought bringing in sage and gray would work nicely (wrong!). Right: Not sure about the color and too similar to previous rug’s design.
Left: I like this color combination, but need change from another geometric pattern. Right: As you can see, this cream and yellow rug is just right!

And to conclude this post, I won’t get into the details for the accent pillows, but let’s just say, I decided less was more and went with a cream beige in a very soft, textured pattern (see images at the top of the post). I think they’re perfect.
