Red Dining Room Brings Warmth to Home and Celebrations

I’m long overdue for another room reveal and I’ve been saving the last room on my main floor for the holiday season. I love how festive it is especially when the room is filled with family and friends to celebrate happy occasions.

When we did our full interior paint refresh (see blog and slideshow), this was one room that remained in the same color family. It got a new fresh coat of color in a slightly different shade using Benjamin Moore’s Caliente. The color is described as “a charismatic, classic shade of red that is radiant and full of energy.” Sounds just about right for an engaging dining experience, right?!

Red Is an Appetizing Color

In fact, the powerful color of red is known to help stimulate appetite. I was drawn to this color long ago because of an Italian restaurant we frequented on special occasions. The warm décor, atmosphere and my experiences there made a lasting impression, so there was no question what color I’d choose for my dining room.

Accents to Enhance a Red Room

I love how the deep red contrasts against the white chair rail and trim. The colors pop. Plus, the espresso accent colors of the credenza and chairs work well against the neutral, rustic farmhouse table and the metal chandelier. Even if this room doesn’t get as much use as others in my house, I find pleasure viewing the room as I go about my house. Every day.

Celebrate Family with Photos

My dining room is also a library of sorts where I display old-time photos of our ancestry. The simple elegance of the black and white photos makes a statement against the crimson walls. Plus, I find comfort knowing loved ones now gone have a presence during gatherings. The nostalgic photos make the room feel complete and homey.

Multipurpose Use When Needed

The dining room is also where my many projects happen. Whether it’s drying hydrangeas or assembling the homemade goodies I share during the holidays, the multipurpose use of the large dining room table provides ample space not only for dining.

  1. Although red is my favorite color, I didn’t think I would like the red decor but I do! It makes the rooms pop. Enjoyed reading this!
