Bring Island Color Home with Caribbean-Inspired Bathroom

Turquoise, cobalt, sky, mint, chartreuse, flamingo, coral, peach, amethyst, goldenrod, candy apple, terra cotta … These are vibrant colors that bring me back to the Caribbean and especially my favorite island: St. Maarten/St. Martin.

The beautiful colors of the island’s dwellings, structures and architecture stick in my mind long after I’m home. Which is why I paid homage to island color in one of the smallest spaces in my house.

Tiny Space Is Big on Tropical Color

In this post, I share how my island experience motivated me to bring just a tiny bit of it in my Caribbean-inspired powder room. See related posts, “7 Reasons Why to Plan a St. Maarten/St. Martin Family Vacay” and “Checking Off My ‘Fun List’ on Family Trip to St. Maarten,” with more information on this Dutch and French island.

When we recently did our interior paint refresh, I stayed with same color family when updating the half bath. I couldn’t part with pinky-orange shade. I bumped up the saturation a bit with pretty and bold Hugs and Kisses by Benjamin Moore.

The wall color, tile, accessories and décor make a statement in this small room.

The peach walls are welcoming and complement the clay tile flooring which I picked to emulate terra cotta that’s widely used on the island. Meanwhile, opposite on the color wheel are beachy blues and blue/greens (hence the curtain and rug) while brown is warm accent (cabinet, mirror and bronze fixtures).

Beachy-Keen Island Scenes

Please indulge me as I illustrate with images of St. Maarten/St. Martin and how its spectrum of colors motivated my paint and décor choices.

  1. I love the colors. So creative and evokes the Caribbean vibe. Maybe you missed your calling and should be an interior designer! I could certainly use a good eye at my house!

  2. Love the color. So pretty. And how you added your own photos. Beautiful and always a reminder of vacation.
